Thakurgaon unit BNP is observing a six-hour hartal demanding
immediate release of its acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam
Alamgir.
Fakhrul was arrested in front of the party's Nayapaltan office Monday evening a day after a case was filed against him in connection with Sunday's violence.
BNP leaders and activists brought out several processions at Thakurgaon and Art Gallery intersections and old bus stand and Polytechnic Institute areas since the hartal began at 6:00am.
No long-distance bus entered or left the district due to the hartal.
Examinations at all the educational institutions have been kept out of the purview of hartal.
No untoward situation was reported till 10:45am when the report was filed.
