1 robber beaten dead, 7 hurt in Gazipur

A robber was killed and seven severely injured as a mob beat them mercilessly in Sadar upazila of Gazipur early Thursday.
The identity of the dead victim was not known immediately.
Five of the injured who were undergoing treatment at Gazipur Sadar Hospital are: Mohammad Ali Ripon Shah, Al-Amin, Faruque, Akhtar and Ronny, reports a correspondent from Gazipur.
Describing the robbery, Mistar Ali, a sub-inspector of Pubail police camp in Joydevpur, said nearly 15 machete-wielding robbers entered the house of Prabin Mandol at Demrapara in Sadar upazila of Gazipur around 1:30am.
The masked-robbers gagged the entire family members of Prabin and tied their hands and legs with rope, the SI said.
Later, the robbers looted valuables of the house. When the robbers tried to flee the scene, some of the family members managed to open their mouth and screamed for help, he said.
Hearing the scream, locals came out of their houses and encircled the robbers, now trying to flee with the booty, he added.
At one stage, the locals caught eight of the robbers and beat them indiscriminately, leaving them critically injured.
On information around 4:30am, Joydevpur and Pubail police rushed to the spot and rescued the robbers with critical injuries and sent them to the hospital
On way to the hospital, one of the robbers succumbed to his injuries around 6:00am, the SI added.
The condition of the seven injured robbers was stated to be critical.
A machete and a lock-cutter were recovered from the possessions of the robbers.
