Unidentified criminals killed three people including two firearms
smugglers by slitting their throats in Mujibnagar upazila of Meherpur
early Thursday.
Informed by local farmers, police recovered the bodies from a water body at Ratanpur village around 7:30am, reports our Kushtia correspondent quoting Robiul Hassan, officer-in-charge of Mujibnagar Police Station.
Two of the deceased were identified as Robiul Alam, 40, son of Azmot Ali of Taranagar; and Hiro Mondol, 35, son of Afaul Krishna Mondol of Joypur village in the upazila.
Reason behind the killings could not be known immediately.
The bodies were sent to Meherpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
According to police, Robiul and Hiro were involved with illegal firearms trading. Several cases were against them with Mujibnagar Police Station under the Arms Act.
Meherpur District and Sessions Judge Court in 2008 sentenced 14 years of rigorous imprisonment to Robiul and Hiro for smuggling firearms through the border with India.
They went out of the jail after the High Court granted them bail in August this year.
“The trio might have been killed due to the internal conflict of the arms smugglers,” OC said.
Police has already launched a drive to nab the killers, said Abullah Hel Baki, superintendent of police in Meherpur.
Earlier on June 16, two siblings allegedly involved in drug smuggling were murdered by rivals in Gangni upazila of Meherpur.
