Workers’ Federation on Saturday called a transport strike for December
11 and 12 to press home its seven-point demand.
The demands include taking steps to stop extortion and police harassment, freeing district transport workers’ union and owners’ association (Kaliakoir branch) office from occupants and lowering prices of all types of fuel including compressed natural gas (CNG).
Transport workers brought out a protest procession on Dhaka-Tangail and Dhaka-Mymensingh highway on Saturday in a bid to make the strike programme a success.
Later, a meeting was held on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.
Shamsuddin Ahmed, a workers’ leader, presided over the meeting which was addressed, among others, by central organising secretary of the organisation Humayun Kabir Khan and president of district truck union Abdul Motaleb.
In the meeting, the speakers announced that transport strike for 48 hours will be observed in all routes in Dhaka division if their demand is not met before December 10.
