Eight judges including the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in Dhaka
received death threats over SMS sent allegedly by Jamaat-Shibir Saturday
evening.
In a Bangla SMS (short message service) typed in English, the unidentified sender threatened the judges and their families of dire consequences.
Talking to The Daily Star, one of the judges who received the threat blamed the members of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir for sending the text.
The SMS reads, "You are the enemies of Islam. You have sent the leaders and activists of Islam to jails instead of granting them bail. We will sever the tendons of you and your family members in the same way as we have beaten up policemen. We will kill you. Be ready. Allahu Akbar (God is all mighty)."
The judges include Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Bikash Kumar Saha, additional chief metropolitan magistrates Md Ali Hossain and Md Shahidul Islam Faruk, metropolitan magistrates MA Salam and Shahriar Mohammad Adnan.
